Kā rāda pieredze, spēlēt var sākt no 6-7 gadu vecuma un turpināt līdz sirmam vecumam. Spēles būtība jeb mērķis ir ar pēc iespējas mazāku āmura sitienu skaitu pārvietot savu bumbu cauri noteiktai vārtiņu kombinācijai no starta līdz finiša mietam. Pastāv arī diezgan daudzas kroketa noteikumu variācijas, kas ir līdzīgas pēc būtības, taču atšķiras niansēs un izklāsta apjomā (piemēram Amerikas noteikumu versija aprakstīta uz 108 lapām). Latvijas kroketa federācija iesaka kroketa apguvi sākt ar Golfa kroketa noteikumiem un tikai pēc tam mēģināt Asociācijas kroketu. |
