A treadmill at home lets you train at any time and in any weather, from a brisk walk to interval running. Home models cost roughly from 270 € to 2,500 €; commercial models for clubs are more expensive.

How to choose a treadmill for home

PurposeA walking pad or compact model is enough for walking and light cardio. For regular running, choose a more powerful motor and a wider running surface.

Motor powerFor home running, a continuous motor power of 2.0 HP or more is usually recommended. The heavier the user and the faster the pace, the more powerful the motor.

Running surfaceRecommended width is about 45–50 cm and length 130–150 cm. Taller users and faster paces need a longer surface.

CushioningGood cushioning reduces stress on knees and spine, especially with regular running.

Maximum user weightCheck it for each model and leave a margin above your own weight.

Foldability and spaceA foldable treadmill suits a small apartment; a non-folding one is usually more stable and durable.

Console and appsModels compatible with training apps (e.g. iFIT) offer programs and automatic incline and speed control.
