Tunturi aizsākās 1922. gadā Somijas pilsētā Turku, kad brāļi Aarne un Eero Harke atvēra velosipēdu veikalu Pyöräkellari Oy. Sākotnēji galvenā uzmanība tika pievērsta velosipēdu remontam, bet vēlāk viņi ražoja velosipēdus ar nosaukumu Tunturi. Zīmols guva lielus panākumus, un dažu gadu laikā nelielo veikaliņu nomainīja pret rūpnīcu, un 50. gados Tuntur zīmols bija līderis vietējā mopēdu tirgū. Izmantojot velosipēdu ražošanā iegūtās tehnoloģijas un zināšanas, Tunturi paplašināja savu darbību un sāka ražot arī citu sporta piederumu. 1969. gadā Tunturi pārveidoja visu fitnesa nozari, iepazīstinot pasauli ar pirmo pedāļu ergometru mājas lietošanai, un gadu vēlāk Tunturi ieguva starptautisku atzinību kā sporta aprīkojuma ražotājs. 90. gados tika pieņemts stratēģisks lēmums koncentrēties uz Tunturi fitnesa izstrādājumu un Tunturi velosipēdu ražošanu. Šis lēmums bija būtisks zīmola turpmākai attīstībai. Tagad Tunturi ir labi pazīstams zīmols Skandināvijas valstīs, un Tunturi fitnesa izstrādājumi tiek pārdoti vairāk nekā 40 pasaules valstīs.
